What Makes Crystal Clean Truly Exceptional: My Perspective from the Inside

Hey there! It's Jeff here from Crystal Clean.
I wanted to share some thoughts from our recent conversation with Charly, Dave, and Will, which you watch or listen to, in its entirety here:
It was one of those raw, honest discussions that really captures what we’re building here in Southwest Florida.
We sat down to talk about our core values, where we’re headed over the next 12, 36, and 72 months, and what truly sets us apart in the commercial cleaning world.
After 45+ years in business, we’ve learned a few things — and more importantly, we’ve learned what our clients value most.
The Foundation: Vision, Relationships, and Systems
Charly laid it out perfectly: an exceptional business has three key parts — exceptional vision, exceptional relationships, and exceptional systems.
I’ve been in corporate marketing and trade shows before joining Dave at Crystal Clean.
When I made the switch, I was looking for something real. What I found was a company that actually lives its values.
We’re not just saying “family first” — we mean it.
That includes our literal families, but also our team and our clients. We treat people like we’d want to be treated.
One of the things that stands out to me is how seriously we take relationships. People buy from people they trust. When we take a community association manager to dinner or remember what matters to our clients, it’s not a sales tactic — it’s genuine.
As Dave often says, people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
The 5 R’s That Keep Us Consistent
One of the highlights of the episode was when Will dropped our 5 R’s of Janitorial Excellence. I loved how cleanly he broke it down:
Right Staff – Attitude and aptitude matter. We don’t hire warm bodies.
Right Training – We go deep. Everyone gets trained, even on things they might not use every day.
Right Chemicals – No guessing. Proper dilution and the right product for the job.
Right Equipment – Microfiber, cotton loop mops, whatever actually works best for the surface.
Right Amount of Time – This might be the most important. You can’t do six hours of work in four and expect great results.
This framework isn’t theory — it’s how we operate every day. It’s why we can confidently say we get better over time instead of declining like so many companies.
Our Focus Areas for Growth
We’re excited about the future and have four main service pillars we’re doubling down on:
Condo & HOA Common Area Cleaning – Exterior work, hallways, weather-related challenges. This takes experience and consistency.
Large Office Buildings – Where our service schedules, app-based inspections, and detailed planning really shine.
Outpatient Medical Centers – This is a specialized niche. The training is more rigorous because the stakes are higher. We treat every room like it’s where someone’s loved one will have a procedure.
Post-Construction Cleaning - Where we help bring beauty to the new builds in Southwest Florida!
We’re not trying to be everything to everyone. We want to be the best partner for clients who value quality, communication, and long-term reliability.
Systems That Actually Work
Anyone can start strong. The real challenge is staying strong month after month, year after year. That’s where systems come in — scheduled inspections, client visits, our internal app for real-time reporting, and proactive communication.
We’ve learned the hard way that you can’t leave things to chance. Regular check-ins, before-and-after photos, and quick response when something isn’t right make all the difference. Our goal is to be an “incliner” — we get better the longer we work together.
It’s About the People
At the end of the day, this business is about people. We’ve got clients we’ve served for over 20 years.
That doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens because we show up, we care, we fix problems quickly, and we treat every relationship as a long-term journey.
We’re also having fun building this. Dave’s vision keeps us pushing forward. Will brings tremendous energy and sales drive.
Our whole team is growing and learning together. It feels less like “work” and more like building something meaningful.
We’re not perfect — we’ll be the first to admit we’re always improving — but we’re committed to doing things the right way.
Final Thought
If you’re a property manager, facility director, business owner, or involved in the construction industury in Southwest Florida and you’re tired of inconsistent cleaning or wondering whether your cleaning company actually cares, I’d love to talk.
We’re not the cheapest, but we work hard to be the best.
